Softtrail Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 11, 2026
Softtrail (“the Extension”, “we”, “us”) is a Chrome browser extension that lets you replace the default mouse cursor with custom cursor packs. Softtrail is published on the Chrome Web Store.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Softtrail uses and how it is handled. Softtrail is designed to work with minimal data collection.
Summary
- Softtrail does not create user accounts.
- Softtrail does not collect your name, email, browsing history, or personal identity.
- Softtrail does not sell, rent, or share personal data with advertisers.
- Preferences you choose (active cursor pack and size) are stored locally on your device via Chrome storage.
- Cursor images may be loaded from a third-party CDN so the selected cursor can appear on web pages.
Information we store locally
Softtrail uses the Chrome storage permission to save settings on your device only, for example:
- the currently selected cursor pack (id, name, image URLs, hotspot offsets);
- your preferred cursor size;
- basic install metadata such as install date and extension version (used only for local setup).
This information stays in your browser’s local extension storage. It is not uploaded to Softtrail servers. Softtrail does not operate a Softtrail backend that receives your settings.
You can clear this data by resetting the cursor in the extension popup, removing Softtrail, or clearing extension data in Chrome.
Permissions and why they are needed
- storage — Used to remember your selected cursor pack and size between browser sessions.
- Access to websites (content scripts on pages you visit) — Softtrail injects a small script so the chosen cursor can be applied on web pages. The script does not read the content of pages for analytics, does not scrape forms, and does not monitor what you type. Its purpose is limited to applying (or clearing) the custom cursor style.
- https://cdn.custom-cursor.com/* — Used only to download cursor and preview images required to display packs and apply the selected cursor. Softtrail does not send your browsing history or personal profile to this CDN. When an image is requested, the CDN may receive a standard web request (for example IP address, user-agent, and the image URL), as with any image loaded from the internet. Softtrail does not control the CDN’s own privacy practices. See cdn.custom-cursor.com.
The pack catalog (names and metadata) is bundled with the Extension and loaded from local extension files, not from Softtrail servers.
Data Softtrail does not collect
Softtrail does not intentionally collect or transmit:
- personal identifiers (name, email, phone);
- account credentials;
- payment information;
- browsing history or the list of sites you visit;
- page content, form inputs, or keystrokes;
- precise location;
- advertising identifiers for tracking across sites.
Softtrail does not include third-party analytics SDKs for user tracking.
Chrome Web Store compliance
Softtrail complies with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies and the Chrome Web Store Developer Agreement.
Limited Use disclosure: The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
